Meet the Maker: Rhiannon of Rhiya Hats

Here at Style Society, we have been on the hunt for good quality hats that don't break the bank for quite some time. After searching for what seems like forever, I was referred to Rhiya by a friend and instantly fell in love with these premium hats! The best part: it's a small, women owned business ran by my new friend Rhiannon. She wears all of the hats (literally) in running her small business, and I am so proud to say that Style Society is the first boutique to carry her line. Make sure to follow her on instagram: @rhiya_usa

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Rhiannon, but everyone calls me Rhi! I grew up in Portland, Oregon, but I am based out of Southern California now. I love fashion, and have a passion to create which is why I started Rhiya Hat Company!

What made you start Rhiya ?

Right out of college I worked for a high end fashion company and fell in love. I believe that outfits can make someone feel empowered, beautiful and confident. I knew for a long time that I wanted to start my own business, and spent a year brainstorming different ideas. My goal was to create a brand that would encourage people to be the best version of themselves. My love for fashion led me to come up with the idea of Rhiya Hat Company, because whenever I style a hat with an outfit, I gain a little more confidence. I want other women to feel the same way!

What is your favorite hat style you’ve created?

My favorite hat is the Chamomile Rancher - the color and quality is so good. It has been a fan favorite!

 Where do you find inspiration?

I try to surround myself with entrepreneurs and strong women that inspire me. It is important to me to be around people who are positive, encouraging and uplifting of each other. I find inspiration through my close friends and family, and of course Pinterest and Instagram bloggers.

Who are your style icons?

I have so many style icons, however right now my favorites are Cher (obviously), Taylor Swift, Hailey Bieber and Kelsey Diprima. I love all of their looks!!

What has been the most exciting part (or a goal you have hit) since starting?

When I started Rhiya, my goal was to succeed in e-commerce, and then expand out to brick and mortar locations. Connecting with you, and placing some hats in your boutique (Style Society Boutique) has been the most exciting part about starting this company so far.

What are you hobbies outside of work?

I am pretty active, I love working out and coaching and playing volleyball. On the weekends, you can catch me walking my dog, and grabbing a coffee or brunch with friends. I enjoy live music and spend my down time reading books.

What is your favorite part about having your own business?

The best part about having my own business is the endless opportunity for learning and growth. Also - I have made connections with some incredible women and other entrepreneurs along the way.

What are some ways that you stay motivated?

I write 3 month goals, and yearly goals and put them on my desk - so that I see them everyday. My cousin and I do this together and check in with one another to ensure we are following through. It is really beneficial for me to have someone who keeps me accountable! Creating personal goals, and professional goals is an important aspect in keeping me motivated daily.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business in fashion?

I would suggest bringing something unique to the market. Do your research beforehand, and try to understand your customer and how you can meet their needs. Get in touch with other entrepreneurs and be fearless in what you choose to do with your business. Pushing past the fears will allow for growth and learning in the process.

What’s next for Rhiya?

Beanies and baseball caps are on the list of styles I would like to add eventually. In addition, I plan to get Rhiya hats into more boutique locations! I am going to continue to create high quality products at an affordable price for those ladies who want a cute hat, but don’t want to break the bank!
